This policy explains how the Vult app ("Vult") handles your information. Vult is provided by Canyon Labs ("we", "us").
The short version
Vult keeps everything on your device. We don't collect, receive, store, sell or share your personal information. Vult has no account, no sign-in and no server, and it contains no analytics, advertising or tracking.
What stays on your device
Everything you put in Vult (photos, videos, files, notes, and the names of your files, albums, bookmarks and open tabs) is encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM. The encryption key is itself encrypted with a key made from your Vult passcode and a secret held by your iPhone's Secure Enclave, so it can only be unlocked with your passcode, on your iPhone (or with Face ID, if you turn it on). It never leaves your device. We can't see, access or recover any of it. Dates, sizes and similar details Vult needs to sort and display your items are stored alongside them without encryption.
Break-in reports. If you turn on Break-In Reports, Vult takes one photo with the front camera after a wrong passcode is entered and, if you allow location access, records your device's location. Both are stored only on your device and shown only inside Vult. They are never sent to us or anyone else.
Backups. Settings → Back Up Vault creates a backup file encrypted with a passphrase you choose. You decide where to save it, for example in Files or iCloud Drive, and that location's own terms and privacy policy apply. We never receive your backups or your passphrase.
Private browser. Vult's browser doesn't keep cookies, cache, browsing history, search history or autofill. Your open tabs (their address, title and a preview image) and your favourites are saved, encrypted, inside your vault so they're there when you come back.
What leaves your device, and where it goes
Vult sends information off your device only in these cases, and never to us:
- Websites you visit. When you use Vult's browser, the websites you open receive the information any browser sends, such as your IP address and the pages you request, and they handle it under their own privacy policies. Searches you type in the address bar are sent to Google. When you save a photo or video from a page, Vult downloads it directly from that website.
- Purchases. Subscriptions are bought and managed through Apple's App Store. Apple processes your payment under its own privacy policy. Vult checks your subscription status on your device with Apple; we don't receive your payment details or purchase history.
- Ratings. Vult may ask whether you'd like to rate it, using Apple's standard rating prompt. Any rating or review you leave is handled by Apple.
Permissions
Vult only asks for access when you use a feature that needs it, and you can change your choice at any time in the iOS Settings app (Settings → Vult).
| Permission | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Camera | Taking photos and videos directly into your vault, and the photo in a break-in report |
| Microphone | Recording sound with videos you capture |
| Photos | Deleting originals from your photo library after you import them, if you choose to. Picking photos to import doesn't need this permission |
| Location (while using the app) | Recording location in a break-in report |
| Face ID | Unlocking your vault |
Turning a permission off stops the related feature; the rest of Vult keeps working.
Children
Vult is not directed to children under 13, and because we collect no personal information we do not knowingly collect any from children.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can delete individual items in Vult, erase everything with Settings → Erase Vault, or delete the app, which removes its data from your device. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete or export on request, but you can contact us with any question.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the "Updated" date above, and if a change is significant we'll tell you in the app.
